General FAQ

What is online learning?

Online learning takes place over the Internet. It differs from traditional learning because students are not required to visit an actual "walled" classroom and listen to an instructor face-to-face. All the courses and instruction are done on the Internet.

How does online learning work at Nellie English Lessons?

After the registration process is complete, students begin their course studies by logging onto the Internet.

At NELS students are placed in online English classrooms that suits their level. They use microphones,  headsets, and chat boxes to communicate. The school uses Moodle, web 2.0 tools, and a virtual classroom that allows teachers to use a white board, PowerPoint presentations, video, audio clips, and websites for online instructions.

Who is the program for?

The program caters to adults who are generally too busy with work, studies, or business to attend regular English classes. Let's face it most people are just too busy making a living to find the time to attend the traditional language learning schools. It is difficult to schedule classes and keep appointments. Sometimes just thinking about the traffic and the bad weather is enough to keep many of us at home. It's often more convenient to stay at the comfort of our homes after a hard day at the office.

What do students need to learn online?

Students need a computer with an Internet connection, a microphone, and speakers.  Instead of using textbooks, learners use three online learning programs and a virtual classroom.

Online Classes

What are online classes?

Online courses are a modern way of learning at the comfort of your home without having to struggle with road traffic, bad weather conditions, and scheduling appointments for class time. The lessons are flexible and easy to access.

What is good about learning online?

You can come to class whenever it's convenient for you by choosing when and where you participate in class. Your course is conducted according to a schedule. You choose the place - at home, at school - wherever you have access to a computer, modem, and an Internet Service Provider (ISP). You'll get the same high-quality instruction and course content that you demand, but without the day-to-day obstacles that prevent so many of us from pursuing other goals. With online learning, commuting to campus and paying for childcare are things of the past.

What equipment do I need?

Students need a computer, a modem, Internet connection, a microphone and speakers.

Do I need to a lot of memory on my computer?

No, you don't. The programs and the online classrooms at the Academy are user friendly and don't require much memory.

I am not much of a computer person, will I manage to work online?

Yes, you will manage. Students don't need to know anything about computers or technology.
