Nellie's English lessons
are online tutorials for students and teachers. The lessons are available
for students who wish to improve their English reading, speaking, and writing
skills and for teachers who wish to continue learning.
Teachers are life long
learners. As an experienced teacher, I am aware of
the importance of professional
development. I invite ESL/EFL and other mainstream
teachers to join NELS to improve their performance.
Teachers receive training on how to integrate technology
and enhance student involvement in the learning process.
My name is
Nellie Deutsch
and I have been teaching English as a second and foreign
language (ESL/EFL) both in the traditional and online
classroom for many years. The online lessons are conducted in an online
learning environment similar to a traditional classroom.
Each online classroom has a white board, a Window
browser, a microphone area, and a chat text box. The
students learn as they would in a regular classroom. The
room is moderated by a qualified and accredited English
teacher with training in online instruction.
The program caters to adults who are generally too busy
with work, studies, or business to attend regular
English classes. Let's face it most people are just too
busy making a living to find the time to attend the
traditional language learning schools. It is difficult
to schedule classes and keep appointments. Sometimes
just thinking about the traffic and the bad weather is
enough to keep many of us at home. It's often more
convenient to stay at the comfort of our homes after a
hard day at the office.
The requirements for online lessons are a computer, an
Internet connection, a microphone, and speakers.
Instead of using textbooks, learners use three online
learning tools such as Moodle learning environments,
wikis, social blogs, voice discussions, and virtual
classroom.
Motivating students for life-long learning is important
to the future of education. Teachers will learn how to
integrate technology into their classes by creating
online learning environments. Teachers will learn to
create and use WebQuests
to promote student collaboration and team work. If you
are a teacher and wish to learn how to integrate
technology into your lessons

about joining an online on how to
integrate web 2.0 tools, a WebQuest class, or
how to
improve your writing. You may
also wish to
teach online. I have had very positive
online learning experiences as an MA (Education,
Curriculum, and Technology) and doctoral student
in Education Leadership specializing in curriculum and
instruction at the University of Phoenix. I believe online
communication is very effective in enhancing personal and
professional development.
Advantages
Online learning has many
advantages. One major benefit is that it provides an
excellent alternative to many of us who have busy
lifestyles and find it difficult to schedule and keep
appointments. Another advantage is that online learning
has unlimited opportunities for an open and effective
channel of communication. A person can express his or
her feelings openly without the limitations often posed
by face to face learning environments.
